A Letter From Alexander Platt
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Boca Raton Symphonia 2008-2009 concert season.
I am thrilled to have been asked to program and conduct the five
concerts of the Connoisseur Series and to be part of developing
the overall artistic growth of this young and talented orchestra.
This is an opportunity a conductor dreams of. It is exciting for me
to be part of creating a vital musical organization for your South
Florida cultural community.
As Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor I will have the time to work with
the musicians on a closer and more intimate musical level. Conducting all
rehearsals and performances will provide us with the opportunity to develop an
artistic rapport and understanding that is not achievable for the ‘one time’ guest
conductor. This relationship can only lead to a higher musical experience for
you and greater artistic growth for the orchestra.
My thoughts, when planning this series of concerts, were that it would be
interesting - and thought provoking - to put together an entire Symphonia
season celebrating the many facets of Tchaikovsky’s genius, that greatest of all
Russian composers. Hence we have for you a series, "Inspired by Tchaikovsky,"
of five very wonderfully different programs: music that he inspired, music that
inspired him, and three masterpieces of the great man himself. One of these, his
evergreen Violin Concerto, is, of course, immortal; another, his "Mozartiana"
Suite, has long been a charming "fringe" work; and the last, his First Orchestra
Suite, has bizarrely been completely forgotten. All three of these works have that
passion and lyricism which are Tchaikovsky's trademark, and I think you will be
enchanted as to how this glorious season unfolds around these works.
Sincerely,
Alexander Platt
Principal Conductor & Artistic Advisor
