A frequent recitalist, Mr. Schmidt made his New York recital debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, his European debut at the Louvre Museum in Paris, and his Far East debut in Tokyo’s Musashino Cultural Hall. He has also appeared in recital as part of the Ravinia Rising Stars series and at San Francisco Performances. Mr. Schmidt has also participated at numerous summer festivals, including Ravinia, Interlochen, Bard, Santa Fe, The Perlman Music Program, Music Academy of the West, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.
A committed chamber musician, Giora Schmidt performs regularly with pianist Navah Perlman and cellist Zuill Bailey, and has collaborated with eminent musicians including Itzhak Perlman, Pinichas Zukerman, Lynn Harrell, Ralph Kirshbaum, Michael Tree and Yefim Brofman.
Mr. Schmidt is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the 2005 Samuel Sanders Artist Award, the 2003 Avery Fisher Career Grant, First Prize in the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Albert M. Greenfield Student and the Concerto Competition at the Music Academy of the West. Competition. Born into a family of musicians, Giora Schmidt was raised in Philadelphia and Israel. He was a student of the late Dorothy DeLay and Itzhak Perlman at the Juilliard School, where, when not performing, he teaches as an assistant to Mr. Perlman. |
